Aladdin XT Install Guide

The aladdin XT modchip is a cheap and reliable one. The easiest way to install one is to use a pin header and the alternate D0 point on the backside of the motherboard and the alternate BT and L1 points. The normal BT and L1 points are what most people do wrong , they leave the soldering iron on the resistors too long and remove the whole resistor , so we will use the safer ones. Ok lets get started ...
This guide will help you install an aladdin XT modchip using the suplied pin header. You will need Torx 10 & 20 screw drivers, A soldering iron and solder and some electrical tape. Use Kynar coated wire wrap as this is the best wire for modchips. Torx 15 is needed for a hard drive upgrade and some solder wick maybe needed for mistakes or to clear the LPC holes in early models.
Soldering Tips
Use 60/40 rosin core solder of fine gauge.
Clean and tin the iron before soldering each connection.
Heat the joint and apply the solder to the joint, not to the soldering iron tip.
Each soldered point should be shinny and clean, not dull or cracked.
Lift up the sticky pads in the 4 corners. Now locate the 6 screws and using a Torx 20 screwdriver remove them. You will also find 2 screws underneath the stickers. Now remove the top cover to reveal the Hard Drive and DVD Rom unit.

Now using a Torx 10 screwdriver, locate the 3 screws that bolt the DVD Rom and Hard Drive to the chassis and remove them.

Unplug the cables from the Hard Drive and DVD Rom and then remove the Hard Drive and DVD Rom from the xbox.

Unplug all the connectors from the motherboard. Use a Torx 10 screwdriver to remove all 11 screws and remove the motherboard.

If your LPC holes are filled with solder you will have to desolder the holes first , you do this by placing the solderwick on the lpc hole and then putting your hot clean iron on the solderwick. The solder should run up the solderwick leaving a nice clean hole. Repeat the process for all the holes , you may need to do some holes a few times to remove all the solder. Now put your pinheader in the LPC holes and remove one pin if needed. Use some sticky tape to keep it in place and flip the motherboard over so it looks like this.

Now you need to solder the pins , just put your iron tip on the legs as close to the board as possible and feed in some solder. Pull away the solder and then the iron. Your soldered joints should look shiny like these ...

Ok now we need to solder a wire to the D0 point. Follow the pic that matches your motherboard and then push the wire through to the topside.

XBOX V1.6
OK now flip the board over and remove the sticky tape and it should look this this.

Now solder the other end of the wire to the D0 pad on the aladdin xt modchip. Now solder wires to the BT and L1 pads on the chip. The following pics shows where these wires need to be soldered to on the bottom of the motherboard. Follow the pic that matches your motherboard . Please note The V1.0/V1.1 pic shows 2 points for L1 but you only use one or the other.
XBOX V1.0/V1.1
XBOX V1.6
Now flip your aladdin xt modchip upside down and push it onto the pinheader. This picture shows which way the chip sits on the pinheader.

This completes the install for V1.0 to V1.5 xboxes.
IF YOU HAVE A V1.6 XBOX:
If you have a xbox V1.6 or V1.6b then you need to rebuild the LPC. This is an extra 5 wires which are needed on the back of the motherboard for any chips to work. The wires must be kept as short as possible and the points are very small. The easiest way to do these is to add a small amount of solder flux using a toothpick to the points and then touch the solder point for 1 or 2 seconds with your clean and tinned iron. Normally you never bring solder on the iron to any joint but it's the easiest way for these points for noobs. You may have recieved a LPC REBUILD board with your chip, do not use them as they are easy to install but hard to tell if the connections are solid later on and if a problem occurs after install the rebuild boards are near impossible for noobs to remove so i say stick to using wires. Follow this pic to rebuild your LPC.

Here is what your LPC rebuild should look like.

A quick press on the power button will boot MS BIOS ( chip disabled )

A 2 second press on the power button will boot the CHIP BIOS ( chip enabled )
