Spider GX V1.0 - V1.5 Install Guide

OK Everything that has a big red X on it you can forget about. You only need to attach the SpiderWire PCB and the front panel switch and the above pic shows where they connect to. Firstly place the spacer ( washer ) on the motherboard on top of the screw hole that the Spider GX will be screwed into. Now line up the Spider GX on the lpc holes and finally using the screw provided screw the Spider GX down firmly but do not overtighten as you will just damage the head of the screw. Please note you won't need the clear plastic piece as it's only needed for the Xbox V1.6

Now cut off all the RED wires shown in the picture above as they are only needed for the Xbox V1.6
Now push the SpiderWire PCB onto your Spider GX modchip as shown in the first pic above. Push the D0 wire into the D0 hole in the motherboard. A few milimeters will be enough , the wire breaks easily so be carefull , use tweezers and don't push it in too far.

Now plug the hard drive back in. Plug the dvd-rom back in but face it the wrong way around and prop up the front with some books so the dvd-rom is level and you can still access the Spider GX and the D0 wire.
Now plug the Black Spider GX PCB Switch in and make sure the main Spider GX switch is ON. Refer to the first pic if you don't know where it plugs in !
Make sure the dip switches are in the default positions ( all on ) like in this picture. Adjust switches if needed with xbox off.

Turn on your xbox and the Blue led on the Spider GX should be ON and the Spider GX menu should appear on the screen.
If your Blue led is not on then push down on the Spider GX using a plastic cup or similar to see if it works with a little extra pressure. If pressure is the problem then make a hole in a popsicle stick and screw it down like in this pic ( please note the pic shows the original Spider and not the Spider GX but you will get the basic idea ).

If your xbox boots up the MicroSoft dashboard just like normal then your D0 wire is not making a good conatct with the D0 hole, use tweezers to angle the wire slightly and push it in a little deeper and try again.
If your xbox tries to boot up 3 times and then Flashes Red and Green then your Spider GX chip is not aligned properly on the LPC area. Unscrew the Spider GX a little and re-position the Spider GX so it makes excellent contact with all the LPC holes and then tighten the screw down and test again.
If your chip will only frag no matter what you do then you can try booting from the special bios on Bank 2.
Set your dip switches to bank 2 as shown in this pic and then try booting the chip.

If this special bios works then you can continue with flashing. If not just put the dip switches back to normal like in this pic and double check your install.

Bios Flashing!
OK so you have the chip properly installed and now need to flash the bios using the Spider GX Menu and your controller.
The Spider GX comes flashed with a Spider GX Menu that allows you to flash your modchip with a hacked bios , you should flash it with a bios once you get it booting. You will need to download the X2 4981 bios (256k) from xbins and then rename it to BIOS.BIN
Check this guide on how to burn the bios disc. Do not use the X3 bios !
If your controller doesn't work in the Spider GX Menu then remove any memory cards and leave only one genuine Micro$oft controller plugged into port 1. If it still doesn't work use the Micro$oft DVD remote control and dongle (grab a mates if you don't have one as you won't need it for long). If your still having trouble make sure you are using the standard AV cable.

Select BIOS FLASH and Then change AutoBoot on Spider OS to Bank 1. Choose Add BIOS from cd. Insert your BIOS cd and flash to bank 1. After it says >end then the bios has been flashed to bank 1.

Turn off your xbox and set your dip switches to the auto boot positions like in the picture above. Turn on the Xbox and the Xecuter 2 4981 bios should boot.
If you are unable to get your xbox to read your BIOS disc then try burning on to different brands of cdrw's and dvd-r's. If it just freezes on any brand and never flashes then there are 3 things you can do.
1. Use the Web OS option to flash bank 1 with the X2 4981 (256k) bios. You must setup your network info in the Spider GX Menu for this work. Simply flick dip switch 1 to ON so it will boot the Spider GX Menu.
2. If you have a mates xbox , take their dvd-rom drive out and put in into yours and then try flashing. replace the dvd-roms after it has flashed successfully.
3. If you have a mates chipped xbox , unlock your hard drive using the spider GX Menu. now remove your hard drive and put it in your mates xbox and copy the BIOS you want to flash into the C:/BIOS folder. Then put your hard drive back in your xbox and lock it again and then choose Add BIOS from Hard Drive and flash it.
