HackDaBox's Tutorials - Replace Hard Drive
Once you have your modchip fitted and flashed the next step is replacing your hard drive with a larger one. You can use any size IDE hard drive of atleast 8 gigabytes but it's best to buy a large one of atleast 120 gigabytes. Buy a Seagate or Western Digital as they can be locked for xbox live.

Grab Slayer's Evox Auto Installer from ( XBINS ) and unzip it and burn onto CDRW 4X or DVD-R 1x speed. choose finalize , disc at once and no multisession. Do not use CDR's as the xbox can't read them. Boot Slayer's and choose

2) Save BIOS / EEPROM (XBOX C:/backup)

as this command makes a backup of important files (BIOS & EEPROM). Now we need to FTP all the files from the original xbox hard drive to your computer before you remove it. Simply use Flashfxp to transfer the whole C: and E: Drives over to your PC. See my Networking Guide if you need help with this. Now if you are going to use this little hard drive in a PC then you need to UNLOCK it first. To do this Choose

4) APPS / UPGRADES / LOCK / FORMAT
4B) ANY HARD DRIVE LOCK / UNLOCK & FORMAT
4B1) LOCK / UNLOCK , UNLOCK Hard Drive.

. Unlocking a hard drive makes it usable in a PC. Othewise leave it locked and its a good backup of your original MS dashboard files. Note a locked hard drive cannot be used in a PC or in another xbox unless it is unlocked in the xbox that locked it.

Make sure your large hard drive's jumper is set to cable select and remove the old hard drive from the xbox using a torx 15 screwdriver. Now replace it with the large hard drive and boot Slayer's. Now choose

3) NEW INSTALL / FULL REBUILD
3A) NEW INSTALL / FULL REBUILD - UPGRADED HD
3a1) FULL INSTALL/REBUILD LARGE HD - *C* 5960

The hard dive will be formatted and all the required files will be copied over for you. Now use Flashfxp to transfer the whole C: and E: Drives over from your PC to your new Hard Drive. This restores all the save games and the original MicroSoft Dashboard files. Now you should LOCK your hard drive for Xbox Live. To do this Choose

4) APPS / UPGRADES / LOCK / FORMAT
4B) ANY HARD DRIVE LOCK / UNLOCK & FORMAT
4B1) LOCK / UNLOCK , LOCK Hard Drive.

Now remove Slayer's and reboot your xbox.

Try booting with the chip off and it should load the MicroSoft Dashboard. Booting with the chip enabled should load the Evox Dashboard.
